Genome-edited rabbit, a prospective alternative model for neurological diseases

چکیده
Animal models have great importance in the research of human neurodegenerative diseases due to their value symptom mimicking, mechanism investigation, and preclinical tests. Although non-human primate large animal good performance disease modeling high maintenance cost critical ethical standards, rodent are commonly used. Rodent been successfully applied many neurological diseases; however, genetic background, neuroanatomical features, nervous system development different from those humans. Moreover, short lifespan small body size also limit monitoring progression observation clinical symptoms studying neuronal disorders that late-onset or a long course progression. In comparison with rodents, rabbits phylogenetically closer humans similarities brain development, thus an alternate model for diseases.

Applications of Optogenetics as Alternative Treatment for Neurological Diseases
Neurological diseases are some of the most devastating illnesses due to the limited understanding of the complex nervous system network and its intricate functions. Moreover, lack of basic understanding in pathophysiology of disease hinders the development of new treatment. Optogenetics is a biological technique involving light modulated cells in living tissue. Successful application of this te...
متن کاملGenome-wide studies and molecular targeting therapy for neurological diseases
We aim to elucidate molecular mechanism and develop therapies for neurological disorders. Parkinson's disease (PD), one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases, is caused by multiple genetic and environmental factors. To identify PD-susceptibility variants, we performed a GWAS and two replication studies in a total of 2,011 PD cases and 18,381 controls from Japan. We identified a novel an...
متن کاملImmunological Basis of Neurological Diseases
Clinical neurology has been traditionally considered as an academic speciality in which the specialist regurgitates his/her knowledge of neurology without being able to do much for the patient. This attitude is no longer acceptable. Surge of information and discoveries in neurosciences within the last two decades translated into therapeutic interventions which is literally life saving in some o...
متن کاملImmunotherapy for neurological diseases.
The burden of neurological diseases in western societies has accentuated the need to develop effective therapies to stop the progression of chronic neurological diseases. Recent discoveries regarding the role of the immune system in brain damage coupled with the development of new technologies to manipulate the immune response make immunotherapies an attractive possibility to treat neurological...
